Summer events
Mountain in flames – Summer solstice
End of June
When the longest night meets the shortest day, the mountain chains of the Steinernes Meer are brightly lit. At the astronomic beginning of summer – as per an old custom which stems from the 12th century, fires are set up on the mountains to banish demons and summon up a fruitful harvest. For the occasion there is a lakeside festival at picturesque Lake Ritzensee in Saalfelden, with the lighting and burning of the mountain fires around the Saalfelden Basin. This little event is accompanied by music provided by Eisenbahner Stadtkapelle Saalfelden.
Tonspuren
End of June until the end of August
Music, music, music – wherever your ear listens. Experience the harmony between sound, music and nature with the breath-taking limestone Alps and the grassy mountains forming the backdrop. At Tonspuren, every year between the end of June and the end of August, there are five concerts with different musical genres as part of a series of concerts - at 1870m altitude on the Großer Asitz. An evening ride on the cable cars is unique here too. The mountain provides a perfect place to watch the sun go down, and the view to the reservoir which reflects the silhouette of the mountains perfectly too.
It is the essence of sound that it becomes all the more impressive and more magical, the closer it is in harmony with nature.
