Activity holiday on the Asitz
Enjoy Leogang’s adventure-packed mountain at any time of the year
The Asitz in Leogang manages something that not many mountains achieve – you never get bored there, whether it is spring, summer or autumn and definitely not during the winter season. In the period of no snow, the Asitz is a genuine adventure-packed mountain for mountain bikers and downhillers, hikers and families, while in winter, unlimited ‘Pistengaudi’ is the order of the day in Skicircus Saalbach-Hinterglemm-Leogang-Fieberbrunn.
The huge mountains in Saalfelden Leogang are as impressive as they are inspiring. There are the rugged and imposing coombs of Steinernes Meer and the Leogang mountains, which create a unique contestation with the gently curving hilly landscape of Pinzgau’s grassy mountains. In the thick of it all sits the Asitz, Leogang’s local mountain and at the foot of this the Good Life Resort Riederalm - just 30 metres from the entrance to the gondola.
Only when you climb mountains can you see the world.
A sports and adventure-filled holiday in the summer on the Asitz
In summer the Asitz offers one thing above everything else – a concentrated charge of action. Bikepark Leogang is located here, which makes it a real paradise for freeriders and downhillers. The ascent takes place on the 8-seater cable car (Asitzbahn), which is just a few steps from the Riederalm. Starting from the intermediate and the mountain station you head right into 9 trails of various difficulty levels and lengths.
Mountain bikers are also very well catered for on the Asitzberg, with numerous very well developed and signposted trails and routes. The route lengths, metres altitude and difficulty levels of the tours are very different. What is certain – pleasure tours are available just as much as road bike routes, road tours for E-Bikes and classic mountain bike tours – so finding your favourite route is no easy matter.
And as a Riederalm guest you get to enjoy lots of bike benefits, starting with the discounted bike park tickets, the dreamy location, with the bike room exit right out to the Bike Park and many other highlights.
The ‘Mountain of the senses’ also has a few surprises in store for hikers – the cable car heads to the intermediate and mountain stations and is therefore right at the entrance to an inspiring hiking paradise with numerous altitude paths, themed hikes and art hiking trails. In the Senses Park on Leogang’s Asitz (at the intermediate station)you are plunged into a realm of sound, sight, smell, taste and touch and head out on a journey which takes you back to your senses on 30 stations and equipment. Walk with your children on the herbal and alpine plant trail and together you will learn something about the effects of over 80 healing plants, shrubs and trees and about the many and varied areas of use of Alpine flowers and culinary herbs. The combination of plucking and smelling plants and imparting knowledge to your kids will be inspiring! A special weekly programme for children, from baking flat breads to telling tales, through to a melodic programme with gong and singing bowls provides more variety.
Then it's time to relax in a very special place: the Peaceful Waters at the Asitz. On a floating platform in the reservoir you can enjoy the splendid views from the observation terraces and immerse yourself in the impressive scenery while relaxing on the loungers.
All additional summer activities make the Asitz the ultimate adventure mountain, such as the zip line Flying Fox XXL, the summer sound toboggan run "LeoKlang" or Leo's Game trail, a leisurely circular walk with play stations for families with children.
Winter fun on the Asitz
In Winter, the Asitz is second to none when it comes to diversity and the wide range of leisure options. For one, the Asitz Mountain is part of the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn and thus one of the largest ski areas in Austria with 270 km of slopes. Top-notch infrastructure, in addition to snow parks and freeride parks, floodlit slopes, speed and racing runs with Ski-Movie, mogul slopes, etc. are just some of the features with which the ski circus impresses. Thus incredible fun on the slopes with skis or snowboard is guaranteed!
Friends of alternative winter sports are also not left out in the cold here, seeing that the Leogang local mountain provides great opportunities off the slopes as well. When tobogganing on the Asitz at daytime, a 4 kilometre long toboggan run "Leo's Sliding Fun" leads down into the valley at lightning speed. Twice a week (Tuesday & Friday) from 18:00 to 22:30 there is also the opportunity to zip down the toboggan run during night-time tobogganing. The route leads from the intermediate terminus of the Asitzbahn cable car down into the valley, with the Stöcklalm Lodge beckoning to put in a stop beforehand.
When enjoying some leisurely winter hiking or snowshoe hiking outdoor fans will discover new trails in the snow and on idyllic horse-drawn sleigh tours love-doves can cuddle up together and marvel at the winter scenery passing by. For those who want to escape the hustle and bustle and experience the fascination of pristine nature, there are several ski tour-climbs by the Asitz, some of which also offer opportunities to stop off for a break and a bite. And to be sure, the touring routes stand out above all with their flexibility, allowing climbs and downhill runs to be picked at leisure. Under the guidance of professional mountain and ski guides, you may be lucky enough to discover a secret route or two!
