Eisriesenwelt in Werfen
The world's largest ice caves can be seen in Werfen. The system of over 40km of caves and passages stretches beneath the limestone mountains of the Tennen Mountains. There a unique natural phenomenon awaits you - giants figures and fascinating formations made of glittering ice, formed from centuries of trickling water. On the tours, you can hear about the history of the mines and their scientific significance. The route through the caves is about 1 kilometre. Even in Summer, the caves are about 0°C. Werfen can be reached by car from Leogang in about 1 hour.
Krimmler Waterfalls
The waterfalls in the Hohen Tauern National Park are an impressive natural attraction. The water falls over 3 levels and over 390m. The Krimmler Waterfalls are the largest falls in Europe and the 5th highest in the world. A 4km viewing trail, full of informative descriptions, will take you past numerous viewing areas, turrets and bridges right near the falling water. A trip to the national park's information centre will provide more infomation and detailed illustrations. The car trip from Leogang to Krimmel takes about 1 hour.
Alpine reservoirs Kaprun
An excursion to the reservoirs in Kaprun is an inspiring journey into the mountains. The fresh air, the lush Alpine pastures, the turquoise water of the reservoirs and the glaciers in the Hohe Tauern provide intensive impressions. The ascent to the Alpine reservoirs starts at Kesselfall Alpenhaus in lower Kapruner Tal. Modern buses take you along the Lärchwand road, most of which runs through a natural rock tunnel, to the Lärchwand diagonal lift. The "Electricity Ice & Adventure World" is located between the Mooserboden and Drossen dam wall, where you can get information about the glacier realm and the history of power plant construction. The ongoing tours of the reservoir wall provide more information about how the "white gold" of electric power is generated from the water. (Duration, approx. 1 hour)
